Vivian Trinh

what i want

waking up to sunlight smiling through the linen.

radiant children running through the door.

kisses on the forehead, our morning greeting.

fixing your tie as you prepare our lunch bags.

goodbye embraces at the door,

you to work and i to the children’s school.

the rearview mirror illuminates two,

maybe three smiling children.

a mix of your eyes, my nose.

Vivian Trinh is a first-year pre-dental health science major with a minor in the University Honors Program. about the author

The poem "what i want" emphasizes the speaker's desire to settle down into a blissful routine filled with family and love in the future. Essentially, she views the things she speaks of in the poem, the partner, the children, and so on, as a destination she strives to reach at some point and time in her life.
